Breeding animals will be shown by breed.

Market animals will be shown in equal classes determined by weight.

Superintendents Choice:  Superintendent may add a Feeder class if there is 3 or more steers at time of weighin that do not qualify for the market class.  Must be entered in market class prior to arrival.

MUST have brand slip at time of weigh-in for market steers to be accepted into the fair.  NO EXCEPTIONS!

   

 

SPECIAL AWARDS AND MEMORIALS
 

Becky Shockley Memorial

Rebecca Shockley, age 15, was an avid and enthusiastic member of the Ahtanum Livestock 4-H Club for 6 years.  The West Valley Fair and Fatstock Sale was an important part of her life.  She carried Beef adn Junior Leadership projects.

Vibrant, friendly, a good citizen, and a constant competitor with an instant and sincere smile were some of Becky's qualities.  Her world was competition and sports.  Beck was a sophomore at the West Valley High School, where she was a member of the FFA and the girl's volleyball and basketball teams.  She was also a memeber of the Cayuse Junior Rodeo Association, the Northwest Junior Rodeo Association, ant the Tampico Saddle Club.

In memory of Becky, her many friends have donated funds to establish the Becky Shockley Memorial Award, a perpetual traveling trophy to be presented to the owner of the Grand Champion 4-H Steer.
 
 

Sheryl Seward Memorial

Sheryl was active in all school sports, participating on the volleyball, basketball, and softball teams.  She was a memeber of Blue Birds, Campfire and softball teams.  She was a straight "A" student at Ahtanum Valley Elementary School.

Sheryl was an active member of the Ahtanum Livestock 4-H Club for 3 years.  The first 2 of those years, she showed sheep.  The third year, she showed in the Beef division, where she won first place in the Novice Beef Showmanship contest.

Her hobbies included cooking, sewing, art, bowling, her horse, her dog, Toby, beef, sheep, chickens, an aquarium, and one wild rabbit.  She had a fantastic love for animals and they always returned it.

In memory of Sheryl Dianne Seward, age 14, a beautiful perpetual traveling trophy was donated by her many friends as a living memorial to her.  This is to be presented to the winner each year of the 4-H Novice Beef Showmanship class.
 
 

Wade Worthington Trophy
4-H champion beef Showmanship Award

This is a perpetual trophy for the 4-H Champion Bee Showman of the West Valley Fair.  The winner is to keep the trophy in his or her possession for one year, then return it to the fair the following year.

Previously awarded to the Overall 4-H Beef Showman, with the top two winners from each age group competing, will will be awarded to the Senior Showman starting in 2000.
 
  

Anderson Memorials

A perpetual traveling trophy has been donated by the Ahtanum Grange in honor of Herbert Anderson and his daughter Carol for their efforts with the youth programs in our area.  Both Herb and Carol enjoyed taking part in the 4-H program and were very active in raising and breeding top quality Polled Herefords.  The trophy will be awarded to the Grand Champion 4-H Breeding Beef of the show.

A second perpetual traveling trophy as been donated by Herb's son, Larry, to be awarded to the Grand Champion FFA Breeding Beef of the show.
 

Western States Angus Auxiliary Award

The Western States Angus Auxiliary, 1470 Eureka Lane, Templeton, CA 93465, will award a silver trophy to the Outstanding 4-H Angus Exhibitor and the Outstanding FFA Angus Exhibitor.  The judge of the Beef show will be asked to make the selection ol the winner based on showring placing of individual animals and placing in Showmanship.  The following point system must be followed:

Conformation Placing:
    Grand Champion - 40 points; Reserve Champion - 30 points;
    1st Place - 20 points; 2nd Place - 15 points; 3rd Place - 10 points
    Participation in Showmanship - 6 points
    Educational Display promoting the Angus Breed - 25 points

If   steers   and   breeding   animals   are   both   exhibited,   points   may  be combined to select a winner.

For breeding animals, the animal must be registered with papers. This is  open  to  exhibitors  with  one  or  more  breeding  and/or market  animals.  Winning the trophy in previous years shall not exclude an exhibitor from winning it again.

For market steers, this award should go to the highest placing predominately black steer.  The sire must be Angus.

    Champion -- 40 points; Reserve Champion --30 points.

It must be kept in mind that the purpose of this award is the promotion of the Angus breed, therefore, Angus breeding animals should take precedence over market animals.

 

Washington State Limousin Association

 

             These awards are available to 4-H, FFA, and youth division entries at designated shows.  Fifty dollars will be awarded to a Limousin-influenced on-hoof Grand Champion Steer and/or carcass Grand Champion Steer of 4-H, FFA and youth divisions.   The steer must be of 50% or greater Limousin breeding and exhibit Limousin characteristics. The exhibitor will be responsible for contacting Dori Shobert prior to the show if they have an eligible entry.   If Dori is not contacted the award will not be made.
